Consules partners with the Arma dei Carabinieri

May 2016

Consules partners with the Arma dei Carabinieri (the national military police of Italy) in the training program “International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in the Management of International Crises: the New Challenges”.

The Program is organized by the Arma dei Carabinieri and Consules, in cooperation with the Italian Army, LUISS University, Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, and University of Turin. The main goal of the Program is to integrate civilian, military, and police representatives in the simulation of a joint EU-NATO action in an international crisis.

The first part of the Program was held in Pisa, on 7-8 May 2016, where the Consules Research Team organized a simulation of a meeting of the UN Security Council addressing a crisis scenario. After two days of negotiations, a UN-SC Resolution authorizing a EU-NATO mission was approved.

In June 2016 the main part of the Program will be hosted in the Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units in Vicenza (CoESPU), where the civilian component (represented by selected university students) and the military component (represented by young officials of Carabinieri and of the Italian Army) will engage and address the complex EU-NATO mission authorized by the UN-SC Resolution.
